My KTM 1190 ADVENTURE was greeted with a lot of curiosity by the mechanics at the Austrian workshop. It doesn’t happen every day that they get to inspect a machine that has been exposed to such an intensive workout. Firstly, they put the bike on the dyno, to run a performance test. The results were shocking. When the KTM 1190 Adventure R was released it’s off-road ability was heralded, yet the 990 is still held as the legend. Something about all of that doesn’t seem quite right. We took an 1190 Adventure R, fitted some Mitas E10’s and headed to Southern Portugal with a three man test crew to see if years of development made a better bike.

Recently, I found a 2014 1190 Adventure with 8k miles for $9k. Small Tusk panniers with quick release, unknown slip on, and that's about it for extras. Dealership policy is no test rides, but when you purchase the bike, you get 24 hours to ride it and return it if you don't like it.
